Sniper Defense

Snipers are the second leading cause of KIA deaths in Iraq.

I just read about this machine that helps pinpoint sniper locations and is being issued to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's a pretty nifty little gadget. When a sniper fires on your patrol, it takes less than 1/10th of a second to calculate the bearing and distance of the shot and relay that information to a little speaker you wear on your helmet. It can also pinpoint the location on a GPS map and send that information to artillery or other support units.

The device, called "Ears", uses shockwave and muzzle blast signatures to differentiate between incoming and outgoing fire, can work on vehicles traveling over 50mph, and it is only 6.4 ounces.

This is a really great device and I'm sure it will help save a lot of lives.
